HOT LUNCH, a Denver based R&B band, was recently chosen as the local winners in The Fifth Annual Budweiser Showdown. Thirty five of the top radio stations in the nation are hosting " The tournament of Jams " in search of the best original, urban contemporary music talent. Locally the competition was sponsored by Anheiser-Busch, Inc, KDKO Radio, Fender and Capitol Records. Over 120 tapes of original material were submitted by area bands to KDKO. Fifteen bands were chosen to compete in the four day event held at four local clubs: Sid's supper club, Spruce street East, The Ready Room II and the Aurora Lounge. As local winners, HOT LUNCH will receive $1000.00 in Fender Musical Equipment and 500 pressings of their winning song. If chosen as the National Finalist to represent the Southwest Region, they will perform live in Los Angeles on May 24-27 at the " Black Radio Exclusive " Convention. The Finals will be filmed for a television special to be broadcast nationally at a later date. The National Grand Prize Winner of the 1987 Budweiser Showdown will receive $10,000 in Fender musical equipment, a Capitol Records recording contract and the opportunity to record a Budweiser radio commercial. Their soulful, instrumental sound, complex harmonies and high energy choreography, create an electricity, both visually and musically, that makes Hot Lunch a band not to be missed.
